A. Choosing the right subject when submitting a message to the forum can have a big effect on what response you get.
The subject is the first thing members see and the first thing they respond to.
A message with a relevant subject gets attention and prompts others to offer help.
One with a blank or un-related subject is likely to get deleted first.
So, what makes a good subject?
The best rule here is BE SPECIFIC!
For example, here are two subject lines- one good, one bad:
1) Help!
2) How do I fix my system file errors?
The first one is emphatic, but practically useless. It gives no idea of what kind of help you want. Worse than that, once the subsequent messages appear in the archive, the search system will likely be unable to find the discussion since there is no way the connect the subject with what is under discussion.
The second one is longer, but far more specific and helpful. People will respond better to it because they know what you are talking about. All replies to that message form a thread which covers the question until a satisfactory end is reached.
RULE: Never introduce a new subject without changing the message subject to correspond with it!
There is nothing worse than opening a message about file errors only to find it is about the latest gossip or an unrelated problem. This kind of thing renders the archive system practically useless.
If you are going to change the subject of a discussion, then please change the message subject accordingly by typing a new subject line!
